I give lessons to pupils of all ages, with a focus on the upper classes of primary education and all levels of secondary education.
In the case of young children, my focus is mainly on developing basic skills and mathematical insight. In doing so, I try as far as possible to find links to their interests, hobbies, experience and the questions that they have. I work in a straightforward way with them to strengthen their analytical skills in analysing mathematical problems, to develop problem-solving strategies, and to offer them methods and techniques for solving specific problems.
In the case of secondary school pupils, my approach is no different, but is adapted to the types of problems and questions with which they are confronted.
Although I do take into account the necessity for pupils to prepare for the CITO test, the final secondary-school examination or other decisive assessment moments, my extra lessons are not primarily focussed on examination training. If offer pupils support by increasing their insight in the material they are offered by the teacher and by increasing their problem-solving abilities. That this is expressed in the pupils' results goes without saying.
